Is Madurai worth visiting?

Yes. Madurai is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and is certainly worth visiting for anyone interested in history, spirituality, architecture, or the real Southern Indian culture.

1. Meenakshi Amman Temple – A Spiritual Marvel

The crown jewel of Madurai is Meenakshi Amman Temple, which is a gigantic and coated sculpture temple complex. The site’s religious significance is believed to be over 2,000 years old, though the current structure was largely rebuilt in the 16th–17th centuries by the Nayak rulers. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (an avatar of Parvati) and Lord Sundareshwarar (Shiva) and is a great masterpiece of Dravidian architecture with tall gopurams (gateway towers), vivid sculptures and a spiritual atmosphere
