Can I renew my Indian visa before it expires?

No. Travelers can only renew their Indian e-Visas once the current one expires. For example, if you have a one-year tourist e-visa, you should wait one year to renew it. You may enter several times throughout this validity period. However, you are not permitted to stay for more than 90 days, which exceeds the continuous period of your stay. This applies to all e-visas. Once your current e-visa expires, you can apply for a new one. All of the steps are the same as the first Indian e-Visa application process.

If you wish to renew your Regular Visa, such as a resident permit, work visa, or student visa, you must apply for renewal 60 days before it expires.

Please note that you cannot extend an Indian e-Visa except for a medical e-Visa in emergencies. Here is a list of a few regular visas that can be extended and renewed.

Indian Work Visa

The Indian work visa can be renewed. If you are in India for employment and your visa is due to expire, you can easily obtain an extension. All you have to do is submit an extension application form and a letter from your employer.

Indian Residence Permit

If you have an Indian residence permit, you can request an extension before it expires. You should request an extension through the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or the Foreigner's Registration Office (FRO).

Indian Student Visa

If you possess a Student Visa, you can request an extension for academic purposes. You must submit various papers such as proof of academic achievement, enrollment, and financial verification.
