Can I travel to India without updating my OCI card?
Yes, you can travel to India without updating your OCI card. There will be no restrictions on the OCI cardholder's travel to/from India between the date of issuing of the new passport and the date of final acknowledgment of his/her documentation in the online system.
Here are some things you need to know about OCI card:
- All OCI/PIO card holders, irrespective of their nationality, can travel to India.
- The OCI card needs to be renewed only once in a lifetime after attaining the age of 20 years and obtaining a new passport.
- Those who obtain OCI after the age of 20 do not need to renew their OCI card. They need to upload their new passport details on the OCI portal only once at the age of 50.
- For minors below 20 years of age, they have to upload their passport details every time they get a new passport.
- It is worth mentioning that the Government of India has also allowed an extension till December 31, 2021 for the reissue of OCI cards. Moreover, there is no need to carry the old passport in which the OCI was issued.
