Do I need a visa to go to India?
All visitors, except for nationals of Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives, need a visa to enter India.
Maldives nationals need a visa only if they intend to stay in India for longer than 90 days.
Nationals of Nepal need a visa only if they will enter India from China.
The necessity for a visa to enter India is determined by your nationality, as well as the purpose and duration of your visit. Following are some general guidelines:
- Visa-free travel: Citizens of certain countries, including Nepal and Bhutan, do not require a visa to enter India.
- Visa on arrival: Citizens of selected countries, including Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, can apply for a visa on arrival in India at specific airports.
- E-visa: Citizens of over 150 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, can apply for an electronic visa (e-visa) to enter India for tourism, business, or medical purposes. The e-visa is valid for 60 days from the date of arrival and is a convenient and streamlined option for many travelers.
- Regular visa: If you do not qualify for visa-free travel, visa on arrival, or e-visa, you will need to apply for a regular visa through the Indian embassy or consulate in your home country. The requirements and processing times for a regular visa can vary depending on your nationality and the purpose of your visit
It is important to note that Indian visa requirements and application processes can change frequently, so it is recommended to check with the Indian Immigration Services in your home country for the most up-to-date information before planning your trip.
