What is the weather like in Kerala?
Kerala has a wet maritime climate with significant rainfall during the summer monsoon season (June to August), however in the east, a drier tropical climate prevails. The average daytime temperature in the plains ranges from 82°F to 90°F (28°C to 32°C), while in the highlands it drops to about 68°F (20°C). In summer, Kerala experiences strong winds, storm surges and cyclone-induced downpours, while winters are much cooler and calmer.
The best time to visit in Kerala is from November to March when the weather is pleasantly warm, the rainy season is over, and wildlife viewing is at its best. However, even during the summer months, Kerala is less hot than most other parts of India, making it one of the best summer destinations in India; travelers should be prepared for rainy and stormy weather when visiting Kerala. Generally speaking, any time between November and May is suitable for visiting, but it is best to avoid the monsoon season. That said, traveling during the wet monsoon season is becoming increasingly popular with adventurers and the Indian government is actively promoting monsoon tourism in Kerala.
